So, when Poseidon went to war against the great god Zeus and creates a huge storm, Charybdis up tidal waves, leading the water to the beach. Thus the sea swallowed villages, fields, forests and cities, defeated him for the god of the sea.
After some time, Charybdis has won a lot of ground for the kingdom of his father, and Zeus became angry with him. He vowed to stop it for good, and to do this he condemned it became a monster - a big mouth gaping ; arm and his leg into the swimming lapel.
Since then Charybdis forced to live in a cave under a fig tree on a small island in the Strait of Messina. Hundreds of sailors drowned in the water which was rocked by ferocious anger Charybdis.
On the other side of the small strait between Italy and Sicily live another monster, Scylla. Like Charybdis , Scylla was once also not a monster. She was born as a fairy - princess of Phorcys - but one day, Glaucus, a fisherman who has been transformed into a god of the sea, fell in love with her . Scylla did not reciprocate his love and run away from him. Because desperate to convince her that he loves her, Circe Glaucus went to see a shaman. There he asked for a love potion to melt Scylla heart.
Unfortunately, when Glaucus tells the story of his love of old Circe, the witch doctor falls in love with him. She tried to convince Glaucus and Scylla to forget to fall in love with her, but Glaucus ignored ; heart belongs to the fairy. It makes Circe angry. To punish his rival, she prepared a bottle of poison and poured it into the pool where Scylla bath.
So Scylla goes into the pond for a bath, She turns into a scary monster with six heads, each with three rows of teeth are sharper than knives. Now she is no longer beautiful but is a very large creature with 12 legs and body of the dogs that barked terrible. Since she could not move, she lives in misery in a gap under the sea and hit all the boats go by. When a ship sailed too close, each head of Scylla attacking a member of the sailors and destroy it in his mouth terrible.

Both sides of the strait are so close that they are trying to avoid the Scylla will sail too close to Charybdis, so the risk of falling into the whirlpool. But they are trying to avoid Charybdis will move too close to Scylla, and many are extinct in the grip of his teeth.
Among those who are dealing with the second monster is the great Odysseus - a sailor bold and smart - and lucky too, because the gods protect him. Circe has warned Odysseus and his crew of two monsters. Knowing this, Odysseusbelieve that he could pass safely, and when he and his crew approached the strait, they are very alert, wary of thundering water eddies when Charybdis swallowed ; voice thundering prepare him to keep his distance.
Unfortunately , regardless of how hard they tr , they can not observe Scylla, which is hidden beneath the sea. And when they can safely pass Charybdis, Scylla appeared with his heads were terrible. With each of his mouth, he caught a sailor, and the sixth man screamed in terror when Scylla dragged underwater.
Odysseus had never seen a more horrible sight than the sight. He stood helplessly on the deck, unable to save his people, he was devastated when he heard the echo of a scream after Scylla catch them. Of course this is not the end of his troubles, he still had to face the sun island, with hunger and curse, foul and storm winds.
Lightning immediately destroy the screen, and the ship split in pieces. Stuck on a raft, Odysseus once again brought into strait to face Scylla and Charybdis. This time he passed too close to Charybdis, and with a large suction, he swallowed his raft. However, this clever sailor who jumped to save themselves by clinging to a fig tree that stands on the cliffs.
When eventually regurgitate Charybdis already broken raft, Odysseus threw himself into one of the board and paddling with hands out of the strait. That's how he survived, unlike many others
